SEAN McFARLAND
About
Sean McFarland (b. 1991) is an American guitarist and composer based in Baltimore, Maryland. His work spans experimental guitar music, contemporary composition, and frequent collaboration with other artists. He performs solo, as a member of Euclid C Finder!, and in Chanp. McFarland's solo practice moves between three modes: composition, guitar performance, and electronic music. His compositional work centers on music made for the medium of recording — layered voices, densely overdubbed instruments, and arrangements that exist specifically as studio works. His 2021 release 1006 and Resonance features solo electric guitar performances including an interpretation of Bach's Violin Partita No. 3 in E major. McFarland is a founding member of The Undercroft, a volunteer-run, sober, all-ages venue in Remington, and a member of the collective at 2640 Space. He studied composition at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he received the Philip Glass Endowed Scholarship and the Gustav Klemm Award in Composition.
